Nine Ways Global Sourcing Can Lead to a Higher Price Tag
Purchasing recently interviewed global supply chain experts to identify drawbacks of a global sourcing strategy. Among the nine potential ROI-killing factors examined in the subsequent article, unexpected internal expenses were seen as a major question mark in the equation.

"Developing a smooth flow of product and communication with [foreign] suppliers can be a hidden cost," says Dan Ostrosky, director of global sourcing at aerospace firm Goodrich, Charlotte, NC. "It may involve having more people on the ground there longer or traveling to their location more often, which can be difficult to forecast."

Other possible “hidden costs” of global sourcing include duty and tariff changes, contract non-compliance, logistics volatility and quality breakdowns. Read the full story here.

Is Welding Automation Right for Your Operation?
Achieving the many advantages of an automated welding cell first requires careful assessment of current welding processes, and a detailed plan to automate. Whether considering investing in a fixed-automation setup or a robotic production cell, automating the welding process can increase productivity, improve weld cosmetics, reduce materials costs (by reducing over-welding), reduce energy and manpower costs and improve reliability.
